Japan Earthquake Relief

The outpouring of Aloha and Kokua for the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake (as it’s now officially called) continues unabated. The Japan-America Society of Hawaii (JASH) will continue to be the recipient of this outpouring of support from the people of Hawaii and commit to providing 100% of your donations to provide relief and recovery for the victims of this tragedy. Two months into this fundraising, JASH and several local partners wanted to move toward long term recovery support to the affected people, especially children in the disaster areas. This change in direction was due in large part to voices in the community wanting to do more than just donate money. As you are probably aware, a Maui-based group called “Aloha Initiative” has established a home stay program for Japanese disaster victims. Our program focuses on children and will not involve home stay. We have now separated the Aloha for Japan campaign from this new initiative to help the children, calling it “Rainbow for Japan Kids” so as not to cause confusion. Now in partnership with local organizations and an NPO in the affected region, “Bikki no Kai,” JASH is launching a new, additional program focusing on children in the affected region. All relief and recovery donations not specified for Aloha for Japan or Japanese Red Cross Society will go toward this effort. Donors are still welcome to donate to JASH and designate your donations to the Japanese Red Cross Society. All donations received so far, and those still to be received under Aloha for Japan campaign will go to the Japanese Red Cross Society, which we continue to partner with to bring relief to affected regions. We will continue to insure 100% of your donations, for either effort, go toward disaster relief to help Japanese victims.

Please send all donations to:
