ORGANIZATION

The Society is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of community leaders. Directors are elected by the membership for a three-year term. The Directors are further divided into three "classes" so that one-third of the Board comes up each year for reelection, which allows for continuity.

The Executive Committee is comprised by the Officers and other Directors as recommended by the Chair. Members of the Executive Committee must be approved by the Board of Directors. The term of the Executive Committee runs for one year from January 1st to December 31st.

The president of the Society is responsible to the Board of Directors. The president implements the policies of the Board of Directors and conducts the day-to-day operations of the Society.

The Society is dependent upon the many volunteers who share in the mission of the Japan-America Society of Hawaii. From the Directors on the Board of Directors, to members of the Society who volunteer on the various committees, and others who help support the Society's programs, especially with the Society's school programs-Japan in a Suitcase, the Asian-Pacific Children's Convention, Japan Day and Japan Wizards. The Society also thanks the many college interns who volunteer at the Society during the summer and throughout the year. The Society could not exist without the help and support of these selfless volunteers. Mahalo nui loa! Arigatoo gozaimasu!
