. : Board of Directors

The Society is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of community leaders. Directors are elected by the membership for a three-year term. The Directors are further divided into three "classes" so that one-third of the Board comes up each year for reelection, which allows for continuity.

Officers are elected by the Board of Directors and serve for a one-year term that coincides with the Society's fiscal year that runs from January 1st to December 31st. Positions include the Chairman, Vice Chair/Secretary, Vice Chair/Treasurer, Vice Chairs.

The president of the Society is responsible to the Board of Directors. The president implements the policies of the Board of Directors and conducts the day-to-day operations of the Society.

. : Volunteers

The Society is dependent upon the many volunteers who share in the mission of the Japan-America Society of Hawaii. From the Directors on the Board of Directors, to members of the Society who volunteer on the various committees, and others who help support the Society's programs, especially with the Society's educational programs-Japan in a Suitcase, the Asian-Pacific Children's Convention, Japan Day and Japan Wizards. The Society also thanks the many college interns who volunteer at the Society during the summer and throughout the year. The Society could not exist without the help and support of these selfless volunteers. Mahalo nui loa! Arigatoo gozaimasu!
