Typhoon Hagibis Relief

October 30, 2019
Honolulu, Hawaii

Aloha,

“Hagibis”, the worst typhoon to make landfall in Japan in decades, hit Japan on Saturday, October 12, 2019.  The deluge of water from 200 overflowing rivers and streams, wind, and rain left a trail of devastation scattered across the country.  Clean-up efforts are underway and sadly, more victims are being discovered with every passing day.  The death toll currently stands at 88 with 7 people reported missing.   It has been reported that over 74,000 homes were flooded with more than 7,400 destroyed or damaged, leaving nearly 4,000 people remaining in evacuation shelters.  It is currently estimated that insured losses from Hagibis will be between $8 - $16 billion.  Relief funds will go to help those prefectures that were hardest hit by Typhoon Hagibis - latest information on this is Fukushima, Miyagi, Tochigi, Chiba, Ibaraki and Nagano.

The Kizuna Group is a collection of various Japanese-American organizations in Hawaii.  While we may have different focuses, we have come together in order to ask for your support in aiding Japan's reconstruction efforts.

Pictured below are heartbreaking photos from various affected prefectures across Japan that show the destruction and illustrates the long road ahead these communities have before they can return to normal.

We urge you to consider supporting relief efforts as our friends in Japan rebuild.
