HINAMATSURI 2024

On March 1, 2024, Consul General Yoshinori Kodama graciously opened his residence to the Japan-America Society of Hawaii for our annual Hinamatsuri celebration in honor of Girl’s Day. It was a very special occasion and a full house of approximately 40 guests.

Hinamatsuri (Doll Festival) also known as Momo-no-sekku (Peach Festival) is traditionally celebrated by Japanese families to wish for the happiness and healthy growth of their daughters. In homes, elegant dolls called hina ningyo dressed in ancient court costumes of the Heian Period (794-1185) are displayed.

On January 24, 2024, Governor Josh Green and First Lady Jaime Green graciously opened Washington Place to the Japan-America Society of Hawaii (JASH) for our annual New Year’s Reception celebration. To kick off the Year of the Dragon, JASH President Reyna Kaneko along with Governor Josh Green, Deputy Consul General Mikio Ozawa, Vice Admiral Blake Converse, JASH Board Chair Karen Knudsen, Deputy Managing Director Krishna Jayaram and Linda Rodrigues of Hilton Grand Vacations, Presenting Sponsor of the reception participated in the Kagami Wari ceremony to ring in the New Year.

Tomodachi Holiday Tea

On Wednesday, December 6, 2023 the Japan-America Society of Hawaii (JASH) members gathered for the annual Tomodachi Holiday Tea at the Waioli Kitchen & Bake Shop nestled in Manoa Valley. Almost 20 members and newcomers to JASH reconnected and enjoyed each other’s company, while partaking delicious baked goods and beverages.

3rd Annual JASH NexGen Natsumatsuri

On August 17, 2022, the Japan-America Society of Hawaii (JASH) hosted our Third Annual Natsumatsuri Summer Festival planned and produced by the JASH NexGen Advisory Committee. This year, the Ginza-themed festival was held in-person at the BSIDE lounge + venue at Ward Centre. Almost 200 guests enjoyed reconnecting with each other.

2022 JUMP Program

This year, our annual JASH JUMP program was broadcast via Zoom on February 22, 2022. The program was formatted to encourage audience participation and to create an interactive space for our attendees. Approximately a third of the attendees were military service members or civilian government contractors who served in Japan. Additionally, a quarter of the attendees tuned in from the continental U.S., Canada, Japan, China and the Philippines.
