Sadako Peace Projects Spring 2025 Semester Recap
The Japan-America Society of Hawaii (JASH), in collaboration with Pacific Historic Parks (PHP), continues to organize the Sadako Peace Project at the Pearl Harbor National Memorial once a month during the academic school year. During the spring semester, high school and university student volunteers joined JASH and PHP on February 8, March 29, and April 26 to share the inspiring story of Sadako Sasaki and her enduring message of peace with memorial visitors. Attendees not only learned how to fold peace cranes but also received cranes folded by students in Japan. These cranes are sent to JASH as part of world history and peace studies lessons, coordinated by teachers across Japan.
On February 8, students and staff from Radford High School’s Interact Club participated in our Sadako Peace Projects. They engaged with visitors from China, Japan, Spain, Africa, Canada, and the continental U.S. Together, we shared a variety of beautifully folded peace cranes with visitors, generously donated by students from Tokyo Woman's Christian University, Sophia University, Tokyo Shiraume Gakuen University & Shiraume Gakuen Junior College, Hiroshima City Satsukigaoka Junior High School, Tochigi Prefectural Moka Hokuryo High School, and Bunkyo Gakuin University.

On March 29, we welcomed student volunteers including the 2024 and 2025 Hiroshima Peace Scholarship scholars, as well as cast members from this year’s Peace On Your Wings production by Ohana Arts. They did a fantastic job engaging with visitors from across the continental U.S., Taiwan, Japan, and Denmark, sharing Sadako’s story and spreading her powerful message of peace. We shared peace cranes with visitors, generously donated by students from Hirosaki University Fuzoku Junior High School, Kawagoe Comprehensive High School, and Showa Women’s University Junior and Senior High School. This date also served as the second workshop of the 2025 Hiroshima Peace Scholarship program.
