Keiki born Aug 1, 2014 – Jul 31, 2015 (ages 10–11) can apply to represent Hawaii in the 38th Asian-Pacific Children’s Convention. Applications, including two teacher recommendations, are due Dec. 8, 2025. Selected keiki will participate in preparatory workshops, local field trips, and a summer camp & homestay in Fukuoka, Japan. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

Middle and high school students can experience hands-on Japanese cultural activities, including ikebana, calligraphy, soroban, tea ceremony, yukata wearing, bon dance, karate, and more. These experiences complement classroom learning and deepen appreciation of Japanese traditions.

2026 Japan Wizards Competition Volunteer Orientation

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers (college-aged or older) interested in working with us to make our Japan Wizards Competition a success. You do not have to be a JWC alumni, nor do you have to be fluent in Japanese! Volunteers will receive training at our mandatory Volunteer Orientation on January 31, 2026 at the UH Manoa Campus Center. Light refreshments will be provided.

2026 Japan Wizards Competition

2026 Japan Wizards Competition – February 21, 2026
High school students across Hawaii will compete in the 23rd Annual Japan Wizards Statewide Academic Team Competition, presented by Hawaiian Airlines. This engaging, team-based quiz challenges students on various aspects of Japan, including language, culture, and history. Teams of three students represent their schools in a fun-filled day of learning and competition. The event runs from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the UH Mānoa Campus Center. Winning teams will have the opportunity to earn an educational trip to Japan.
