2026 APCC Camp Weekend Builds Teamwork, Culture, and Leadership

On March 28–29, our 2026 APCC Junior Ambassadors participated in a memorable and meaningful camp weekend—one that demonstrated their flexibility, teamwork, and positive spirit. The group was originally scheduled to attend an overnight camp at Camp Erdman. However, due to the March 2026 Kona Low storm, the camp was forced to close. In response, we quickly adapted and created a unique and rewarding “camp experience” closer to home.

The weekend began at the JASH office, where the Junior Ambassadors reviewed homework, practiced their bridge song and hula, and participated in engaging team-building activities. They also worked on their oli and Japanese phrases using flashcards, while contributing thoughtful ideas during global leadership discussions.

The group then enjoyed a field trip to the Bishop Museum, where they explored Hawai‘i Hall, the Science Center, and exhibits highlighting the islands’ rich history and cultural heritage. This experience provided both educational value and an opportunity for the students to bond outside the classroom.

The program continued at the Lum family home, named “Camp Koʻolau,” where the Junior Ambassadors embraced the full camp experience. They worked together to set up tents, participated in additional team-building activities, and ended the day gathered around a barbecue pit roasting marshmallows and sharing stories.

Despite the unexpected change in plans, the weekend proved to be a meaningful opportunity for growth and connection. Each Junior Ambassador brought a unique personality and background, yet came together as a supportive and collaborative team. Their preparation and enthusiasm were evident throughout the weekend, and their progress—especially in hula—was impressive.

Overall, the group is off to a strong start, demonstrating dedication, resilience, and a genuine commitment to the program. We look forward to seeing their continued growth in the months ahead.

Mahalo to all parents for their flexibility and support, and a special thank you to Wendy and the Lum family for their generous hospitality and delicious meals, which made this experience truly special.
