Japan-America Society of Hawaii Hosts 2025 JUMP Reception at the Consul General’s Residence
On June 27, 2025, the Japan-America Society of Hawaii (JASH) was honored to host the annual Japan-U.S. Military Program (JUMP) at the Official Residence of the Consul General of Japan in Honolulu. Consul General Yoshinori Kodama graciously welcomed more than 200 distinguished guests, including Japanese and American military service members, civilian government contractors, and local leaders, to an evening dedicated to strengthening the enduring alliance between Japan and the United States.
The evening began with a spirited performance by the Japan Training Squadron Band. JASH President Ms. Reyna Kaneko delivered opening remarks, followed by welcoming messages from Consul General Kodama and Hawaii Governor Josh Green. Dr. Satohiro Akimoto, President of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA and Director of JUMP, emphasized the importance of cross-cultural engagement in deepening U.S.-Japan relations.
Among the evening’s distinguished speakers was General Kevin Schneider, Commander of the United States Pacific Air Forces, who spoke on the vital role of the U.S.-Japan alliance in maintaining regional peace and stability. Rear Admiral Takaaki Hayamizu led the traditional kanpai toast, celebrating the lasting friendship between the two nations.
Guests enjoyed a thoughtfully curated dinner featuring Japanese cuisine from Rinka Restaurant and American fare by Kaimuki Shokudo (Westman Corporation). The Japan Training Squadron also thrilled attendees with a dynamic taiko drum performance, and a captivating performance by two Japanese performers adding a memorable cultural highlight.
Rear Admiral Hiroshi Watanabe, Commanding Officer of the Japan Training Squadron, offered closing reflections on the themes of unity and camaraderie, marking a fitting conclusion to the evening. JASH Chair Ms. Karen Knudsen closed the program by expressing appreciation to all attendees and partners.
