Junior Ambassadors Selected to Represent Hawaii at the 38th Asian-Pacific Children’s Convention in Fukuoka, Japan

2026 Hawaii Delegation

(L-R): Chaperone Sean Takehara, Amelia Oh, Aubrey Uehara, Nicolas Davila, Andrew Tamamoto, Peace Ambassador Ella Bosworth

The Japan-America Society of Hawaii (JASH) is proud to announce the selection of four Junior Ambassadors (JAs) who will represent JASH and Hawaii at the 38th Annual Asian-Pacific Children’s Convention (APCC) in Fukuoka, Japan, this summer.

The APCC is a cultural exchange program designed to foster a deeper appreciation for diverse cultures, promote mutual understanding and friendship, cultivate international awareness among young people, and contribute to world peace and coexistence. Through this experience, the Junior Ambassadors will build meaningful international friendships and broaden their global perspectives.

Over the next several months, the four selected Junior Ambassadors—two boys and two girls, all 11 years old at the time of travel—will participate in a specialized training program developed by JASH to prepare them for their journey to Japan in July. While in Fukuoka, they will join more than 160 fellow Junior Ambassadors from over 40 countries and cities across the Asia-Pacific region at a global youth camp. They will also take part in a homestay experience, each living with a Japanese host family. This transformative program is designed to nurture globally minded individuals with a strong sense of social responsibility.

The 2026 Junior Ambassadors representing the United States of America – Hawaii Delegation are:

  • Andrew Tamamoto – 'Iolani School

  • Nicolas Davila – Hongwanji Mission School

  • Amelia Oh – Waikiki Elementary School

  • Aubrey Uehara – Maʻemaʻe Elementary School

They will be accompanied by chaperone Sean Takehara, a dedicated JASH volunteer who has been actively involved with the APCC program since 2023.

Additionally, the USA–Hawaii Delegation is honored to send APCC alumna Ella Bosworth (Junior Ambassador 2019) as a 2026 Peace Ambassador. She will participate in the Peace Ambassador Camp, which is integrated into the global youth camp experience.

This year, JASH is also grateful for the support of additional volunteers assisting with the delegation: Wendy Lum, former APCC Chaperone, and Wesley Lum, serving as shadow chaperone. We look forward to preparing our Junior Ambassadors for their trip to Fukuoka this summer!

Since 2003, JASH has proudly served as the Liaison Office for the Hawaii delegation. To learn more about the APCC program, please visit the JASH website at www.jashawaii.org/education/apcc
