Japan-in-a-Suitcase Volunteer Meeting for SY2025-26
On Wednesday, September 10, 2025, JASH held its Japan-in-a-Suitcase (JIAS) Volunteer Meeting at the JASH office. JIAS is an educational program that brings Japanese culture directly into Hawaii classrooms through hands-on presentations and activities. This gathering brought together both new and returning volunteers who are interested in introducing Hawaii’s students about Japan, while teaching the concept of ‘different perspectives’ through interactive classroom presentations.
During the meeting, volunteers received a brief overview of JASH and its various programs, reviewed the JIAS program’s educational goals and curriculum, and discussed ideas for engaging students. The session also provided an opportunity for volunteers to connect, exchange experiences, and prepare for the upcoming school year. After the meeting, volunteers enjoyed a casual lunch together, further getting to know one another.
Looking ahead, JASH plans to hold another volunteer meeting in December for a mid-program review and finalize scheduling to ensure a successful school year.
Our volunteer team continues to grow, reflecting the community’s strong support for promoting cross-cultural learning and appreciation of Japan among Hawaii’s youth. JASH is always looking for more volunteers to join the JIAS team—no prior experience is necessary, just an interest in exploring and sharing different cultures, with a focus on Japan, with students. If you or someone you know may be interested, please contact JASH Educational Programs Manager Cindy Oshima at coshima@jashawaii.org.
JASH extends a sincere thank you to all of our JIAS volunteers, whose time and dedication make this program possible. We look forward to the school year ahead! To learn more about JIAS, visit our website at www.jashawaii.org/education/jias.
